About this Visualization
This chord diagram shows the directional trade flow by region. It depicts the total value of fish exports in 1000 USDollars. Nodes that represent each region are arranged around the circle. The relationships between regions, are connected to each other through the use of arcs or Bézier curves (See Data Visualization Catalogue). Export values are assigned to each connection. They are represented proportionally by the size of each arc.
If you click on the black buttons on the top right corner you can see how the exports change between different sets of years. If you hover over the chord, you will get the specific value in exports for each region. If you hover over the regions on the right hand side, you can also read the specific countries in each region.
About the Data
The data used for this visualization comes from four Fishery and Aquaculture Statistics Commodities Yearbooks, published by FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations). It covers the export averages from 2004 to 2006, 2007 to 2009, 2010 to 2012 and 2013 to 2015. The figures include commodieties from aquaculture and aquatic animal production excluding mammals. Euorpean Union includes 27 countries except for the years 2013 to 2015. This last set of years it has 28 countries including Croatia.
This research was funded by the project SAF21 - Social science aspects of fisheries for the 21st Century. SAF21 is a project financed under the EU Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSC) – ITN - ETN programme (project 642080).
